Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Ben Harris has always called Plano home. Ben grew up in Plano, attended and graduated from Plano schools, before receiving a degree in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. Returning to Plano, he married his wife Abby, a fellow Plano Senior High School Graduate and former Plano ISD teacher.
Ben may be the youngest of all the council members, but his experience in the public and private sector are well beyond his years. Before being elected to City Council, he worked for Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceuticals, and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of the State of Texas. In November 2011, Ben became the Vice President of Business Development at The Medical Center of Plano.
He is a former chairman of the Leadership Plano Executive Board, former vice-chair of Plano Parks and Recreation Planning Board, and has also been a member of the Board of Directors for the Plano Chamber of Commerce and Plano Youth Leadership.
Ben was elected to Plano City Council in 2009, and became Deputy Mayor Pro Tem in 2012. He was reelected in May of 2013. “I look forward to working with the City of Plano to ensure the city remains a national leader in public safety, economic development, sound fiscal management and government transparency” says Ben.
One of the reasons Ben decided to run for City Council was to ensure that his children could grow up in a Plano that offered them the greatest opportunities, as Plano had offered him during his earlier years. “I remain steadfast in my belief that there is no better place in America to live, work, and to raise a family than Plano”.
Ben and his wife Abby are the proud parents of two young children, Lainey and Walker. They are active members of Christ United Methodist Church.
