Council Member Tom Harrison grew up in a small town outside of Kansas City, Missouri before going to work for Trans World Airlines in their accounting department as an analyst. He entered the US Navy and upon being honorably discharged moved to Rochester, New York to attend Rochester Institute of Technology where he received a BS degree in Business and Marketing. Upon graduation he joined the Xerox Corporation and worked up to a director of Marketing and Planning for an SBU. He was hired as the North American Sales Director for Brandt Money Systems developing an automated Cash Vault System for major banks throughout the U.S.
After working for a small telecom company, Tom went to work for a telecom company in Carrollton, Texas where took over the North American sales responsibilities as the Vice-President of Sales and Marketing with annual revenues of almost $250 million. The bubble burst in 2001 for the dot-com and telecom industry and Tom retired from the corporate world to serve in volunteer groups in and around Plano.
The most fulfilling was the creation of a microfinance business in Cameroon Africa through the Custer Road United Methodist Church. After three years the operation is to the point of self-funding their own operation which funds entrepreneurs that improve their lives and that of the other villagers. Tom still works with other groups in the United Methodist Men’s organization and has served on the Board.
