CERT offers specialized training for volunteers who live or work within the City of Plano. Managed through the Department of Emergency Management, our Community Emergency Response Teams, better known as CERTs, are trained and coordinated to prepare and respond to community or regional natural or man-made disasters.
CERT’s unique training and response program follows the U.S Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The City of Plano’s Department of Emergency Management has enhanced and customized this program to fit the needs of Plano’s citizens.
The CERT training challenges individuals to better prepare themselves, their family, their workplace, and their neighborhoods. Upon conclusion of the 8-session program, participants “respond” to a full-scale disaster scenario that allows them to apply the training learned in the lessons of the program.
CERT participants will receive a selection of basic disaster response equipment that they earn the right to keep upon graduation from the program.
