Get a Library Card / Borrowing
*Get a Library Card*A library card is required to check out materials, use a computer, and access online resources. Cards are free for Plano residents and residents of the following reciprocal cities: Allen, Frisco, Garland, McKinney, Richardson, The Colony, and Wylie. Residents of all other cities are required to pay $50 for an annual nonresident card.
Proof of address is required when picking up your card and can be verified with a driver's license or other document showing name and current address, for example; lease or purchase agreement, recent public utility bill, insurance card, or voter registration card.
Register online or complete an application at any Plano library. Your card is valid at all five Plano libraries and you will need it each time you visit. If your library card is lost or stolen, please notify Plano Public Library System immediately. Cost of a replacement library card is $1.
If children are under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign their application and agree to take responsibility for all materials borrowed on the card.
The following items are limited to a loan period of one (1) week:

Download the library mobile app to manage your account, store your library card, search for books, movies and music, place holds, download an eBook, learn a new skill, research a topic, find a great program to attend, locate your neighborhood library and more; available from the App Store, Google Play, and Amazon (search for Plano Public Library System).
Notifications may be sent by email, text, or telephone. Contact the library to update your account settings. Notifications are sent as a courtesy only; monitoring due dates and renewal status is the patron’s responsibility.

For uncollected charges of $25 or more, payment will be sought by a collection agency. A $10 collection fee will also be assessed and is non-refundable.
Sets returned with missing pieces will accrue fines on the patron record until the complete set is returned. If any piece of a set is lost, the patron will be charged the cost of an entire replacement set.
The Library reserves the right to limit checkout privileges until overdue or lost material charges are cleared.
Payment may be made via cash, check, or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, or Discover) at any library; or checks may be mailed. Credit cards are also accepted by phone or online. Log in to your account to use the online bill pay service. Online Bill Pay Policy
Overdue - Delinquent Accounts
Library cardholders whose accounts are delinquent and have been sent to collections will be blocked from checkout privileges and computer access until the amount owed is paid in full.
Materials not on hold for another patron will renew automatically up to ten times in general. However, some items are limited to one renewal, including STEAM Kits from Haggard Library, Launchpads, and Binge Boxes. "Too Hot to Hold" items are not renewable. Log in to your account online to monitor due dates, renewals, and current status of all items.
Materials may be returned to any of the five Plano libraries regardless of where they were checked out, excluding STEAM Kits which must be returned to the library where they were checked out. Outside book drops are located on the west side of each library. Book drops are closed on holidays when the library is closed; check the library website for current closure dates.
Self-checkout machines are available for quick service at all Plano libraries and allow use of a library card, or library card number stored in the library mobile app to check out materials. You may also pay fees and fines, renew items, and review holds on the self-checkout machines.
