Today, the public recognizes the important role of building departments in ensuring public safety. The fine work of building departments is evidenced by the outstanding safety record of buildings in the U.S as compared elsewhere in the world. Awareness of this important role has encouraged U.S building departments to seek a way to demonstrate their competence, professional qualifications and ability to serve their jurisdictions.
International Accreditation Service (IAS)
A subsidiary of the International Code Council, IAS a recognized accreditation body since 1975, provides an independent assessment that building departments must meet to fulfill the requirements of an internationally-recognized accreditation program.
Plano Building Inspections Department is Accredited
Since 2007, The Plano Building Inspections Department has been accredited by the International Accreditation Service for Building Department Agencies. Plano must maintain accreditation and are under review every 3 years. Reaccreditation has occurred for Plano in 2010 and 2014. Plano is one of only 2 cities in the State of Texas to become accredited. There are only 22 Building Departments accredited worldwide.
What Does it Mean?
Most importantly, being accredited confirms that the Building Inspections Department is qualified to protect the citizens of Plano. Projects under construction must maintain and be built within the safety parameters of the building codes.
Additionally, it requires Plano Building Inspections to continuously evaluate, monitor and achieve quality improvement. This means that the citizens’ receive services that are analyzed, verified, and validated as being best practices. It verifies that the Department has demonstrated their competence, professionalism and ability to serve our citizens. We are a building department in line with nationally accepted standards promoting the highest ethical, legal and technical requirements.
