Resources - Spring 2017
We had our first meeting on 2017 on Thursday, January 19th at the Chase Oaks Family Center located at K Ave and 19th Street. We saw many familiar faces as well as some new ones.
Love Where You Live will continue work in the Old Towne neighborhood until May of this year. We presented a brief overview of the program, went over some important meeting and event dates, and then spent some time engaging in a fun game of Neighborhood Bingo! This provided an opportunity for participants to find out some fun facts about their neighbors. The evening’s presentation can be viewed here.
We had our second meeting of the Spring Session on Thursday, February 16th at the Chase Oaks Family Center.
Firefighter Luke Thompson, Fire and Life Safety Education Coordinator with the City of Plano’s Fire Rescue Department made a presentation on Home Fire Safety and Injury Prevention, letting us know about the city’s fire resources, and how to best take care of yourself and loved one in the event of a fire. He shared some great information as well as some useful giveaways! His presentation can be viewed here.
Kelly Crimmins, our new PR and Community Relations Specialist for the Parks Department spoke about the updates to the city’s pool facilities, as well as the Play in the Park program that will be starting in the summer – great fun for kids of all ages! Her presentation can be viewed here.
Our next meeting on Thursday, April 20th at 6:00 PM at the Chase Oaks Family Center will cover crime prevention by guest speaker, Officer Christopher Bianez.
Officer Christopher Bianez with the City of Plano's Crime Prevention Unit, offered an interactive presentation on crime prevention and general crime watch practices, letting us know what you can do to prevent a crime before it happens. Officer Bianez informed us to report suspicious activity and to get to know your neighbors to help better protect yourself and your neighbors from crime. He shared some great information as well as providing resources about the citizens police academy, crime watch groups, and much more!
