Federal legislation that seeks to end hundreds of preventable childhood deaths was signed into law on December 21, 2007. This law - the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Safety Act - will provide incentive grants to states that have current legislation or pass legislation implementing layers of protection to help prevent drowning, the second leading cause of accidental death in children aged 1 to 14 years.
The Texas swimming pool codes already meet or exceed the act on the commercial side. Please read the Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) interpretation of the act and its meanings for both commercial and residential pools.
Protect Yourself & Your Family Against Recreational Water Illnesses
Think about it!
You share the water with everyone in the pool. If someone with diarrhea contaminates the water, swallowing the water can make you sick. So, you think chlorine kills germs? Yes it does, but it doesn’t work right away; It takes time. In fact, without your help, even the best-maintained pools can spread illness.
