Summer leisure catalog hits mailboxes this week, registration opens May 6

Many residents have been asking when they can expect to see our summer leisure catalog and the wait is nearly over. If you have a Plano Parks and Recreation membership or have taken any of our classes in the past few years, you should be receiving our seasonal catalog in the mail this week. If you are not a member or have yet to take one of our classes, please stop by any of our facilities to pick up a free copy.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. on May 6 for Plano residents and at 5 a.m. on May 8 for non-residents. Registration for summer camps and sports clinics is already open. You can also view offerings and register for classes online by visiting

Plano Parks and Recreation ensures something for everyone. Here are just a few summer offerings new to this year’s lineup:

Stand Up Paddle Boarding (10 years and older): Take your first steps to walking on water at Oak Point Lake. In this 3-day course, the professionals at DFW Surf will teach you how to paddle with confidence. Anyone registering must have swimming ability. Course code 193053

Summer Camps: Camp Connections now offers pre- and post-camp hours for parents who would like to drop off or pick up outside of the camp’s 9 a.m.-2 p.m. timeframe. Our recreation centers offer an array of additional camps and classes sure to make your child’s summer a memorable one. New this year to Scramble Ramble and Sports Camp—a trip to Go Ape Treetop Adventure and a ride on the FlowRider at Jack Carter Pool!

Teens Night Out (Adapted Recreation): This new program gives teens with learning or developmental disabilities an opportunity to socialize with their peers outside of school by engaging in activities such as line dancing, games and arts and crafts. Course codes 191560, 191870

The Star at Ford Center Tour (Adults 50+): This VIP tour of the Dallas Cowboys headquarters and training facility will give fans a chance to experience the place where the Dallas Cowboys train and work 355 days of the year. Course code 191341

Introduction to Kayaking (13 years and older): Learn the basics from an American Canoe Association certified instructor at Oak Point Nature & Retreat Center. Gear and equipment provided. Course codes 193146, 193067, 193147, 193148, 193068, 193149

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: Offered at Liberty Recreation Center, this form of martial arts shows how to defend against a bigger, stronger person by using leverage and proper technique. Learn the basics of this form and how to apply them in live, controlled grappling situations. Course codes 192134, 192135
