Summer swimming roundup—your guide to Plano’s pools


Our pools open for Memorial Day weekend (Saturday and Sunday hours vary by pool) including Monday, from 1-6 p.m. at all pools. Summer daily hours begin June 5.

Our recreation center memberships are an affordable option for those who plan on visiting our pools this summer. Not only do we offer monthly and annual membership plans, patrons can choose from several different membership levels for residents, non-residents, individual, senior and family packages. We also offer discounts for individuals who work in Plano or live in the Plano ISD school district. Not sure where to start? Each pool in the Plano Parks and Recreation system offers something for everyone. Here’s some information to help you plan your outings:

Harry Rowlinson Community Natatorium

Looking for lap lanes? The “Nat” is an indoor 25-yard facility with deep and shallow water training areas and a zero depth entry ramp in shallow area. It is open weekends during the summer season and for scheduled classes only during fall, winter and spring.

Jack Carter Pool

The newest addition to the Plano Parks and Recreation aquatics system, Jack Carter Pool will open for its first full season this year. The pool opened last July and saw nearly 50,000 visitors during the 49 days it was open. Jack Carter Pool features a dual rider tube slide, body slide, lazy river, deep water pool with platform diving and a climbing wall, Flow Rider surf simulator, tot pool, leisure pool with some lap lanes, wet deck areas, spray features, rentable party areas and concessions.

Liberty Recreation Center

This commuAltTextnity pool provides a fun-for-all swimming experience complete with shaded spots perfect for picnics. An ideal oasis for small groups looking to avoid the waterpark crowds, the pool also features a children’s slide, ADA-compliant pool chair, shower, shallow area and deep water swimming (seven feet).  The pool also serves as training ground for our local swim teams, the Aquaducks and Barracudas. These teams are for children ages 6-18 and provide them with a healthy and competitive experience that emphasizes leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship and respect toward others. An information meeting and new swimmer tryouts are set for 6-8 p.m. on May 19 at the center. Check out our Youth Swim Teams page for more information.

Plano Aquatic Center

From birthday parties to family reunions, the Plano Aquatic Center is popular for its kid-friendly features and rentable spaces. 

Patrons can rent the indoor pool, outdoor splash pad or party room depending on their needs during public swim hours. The PAC’s party room rentals allow guests to have party food and gifts in a designated area with each person paying the public swim admission.

AltTextTom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center

Named after former Plano city manager Tom Muehlenbeck, this center features both indoor and outdoor swim options and hosts many swim teams including our Piranhas Youth Swim Team. Its indoor lap pool ranges from 3.5 feet to 12 feet and includes eight 25-yard lanes, a diving board and a large drop slide. The lap pool is heated to 83 degrees year-round. The indoor leisure pool features an easy-access ramp, two walking lanes, play structure for toddlers, vortex, current channel and a large water slide. The indoor pool is heated to 85 degrees year-round. 

The outdoor pool at TMC is a popular venue during the summer months for its many fun features, such as a shallow-water leisure pool with a sitting area and fountains, water volleyball, play structure for toddlers, and a variety of spray features. The outdoor facility also offers three large slides, concessions and a party area available for rent. For the first time since its opening nearly 10 years ago, the pool will stay open a little later for Moonlight Mondays starting June 5. Patrons can swim there from 7-9 p.m. for just $2 per person this summer (or free if you have a rec center membership). TMC also offers several options for your pool party needs. Party room rentals allow you to have party food and gifts in a designated area with each person paying the public swim admission.
