Share Your Pet's Story for a Shelter Art Piece

Plano Tails & Tags

The Plano Animal Shelter wants to recognize your faithful furry friends through one-of-a-kind art pieces. Send us your pet stories to be entered in the art contest, which will feature the tags of two pets. Follow our Facebook page to vote on finalists.

Andrea Davis, a local artist, is designing a mosaic of colored tags in patterns in three pieces focused around one pet tag on each piece. The first tag to be featured belonged to Gertie, our beloved shelter mascot, who passed away a few years ago. The other two tags will be chosen from pet stories submitted by you.

How the contest works:

  1. Send your pet’s story by Monday, July 31. Please include a photo. (keep your tags for now)
    • Your pet does not have to be adopted or rescued but you must be willing to part with their old or expired tags.
    • Email your stories to planoanimalshelter@plano.gov.
  2. Each week a finalist will selected and announced on the Plano Animal Shelter Facebook. Their story will be shared on PlanoAnimalShelter.org for everyone to read.AltText
  3. After July 31, we will post all the finalist on the Plano Animal Shelter Facebook page so you can vote on the “People’s Choice” winner. A judging team will select the other winner.
  4. Join us on Saturday, Aug. 19 at our Clear the Shelter event where we will announce the official winners.
  5. The two winners will be contacted and asked to donate their old or expired tags for the permanent artwork.
  6. We will showcase the art installation at a future Shelter event, which will be announced on our Facebook page and website.

Hurry, the contest ends on July 31. We cannot wait to read your inspiring, loving and funny pet stories.
