Summer swimming roundup - your guide to Plano’s pools

Summer is just around the corner, and here at Plano Parks and Recreation we can already smell the sunscreen.

Our staff has been working hard to get our outdoor pools ready for another safe and fun summer starting Memorial Day weekend, May 26. Saturday and Sunday hours vary by pool and all will be open on Monday, May 28 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Summer daily hours start on Monday, June 4 through Friday, Aug. 10. Each pool in the Plano Parks and Recreation system offers something for everyone. Here’s some information to help you plan your outings:

Carpenter Park Recreation Center
The newest pool in Plano’s recreation system, the indoor pool at Carpenter Park Recreation Center is open year-round and offers features for the entire family, including four leisure lanes, a current channel, two slides, a toddler area and a party room. Those who enjoy exercising in the water will appreciate the slightly warmer temperature, which is also ideal for toddler, preschool and youth swim lessons.

Harry Rowlinson Community Natatorium
Looking for lap lanes? The “Nat” is an indoor 25-yard facility with deep and shallow water training areas and a zero-depth entry ramp in shallow area. It is open weekends during the summer season and for scheduled classes only during fall, winter and spring.

Jack Carter Pool
Visitors to Jack Carter Pool this year will get to experience a new slide. The facility also features a dual rider tube slide, body slide, lazy river, deep water pool with platform diving with a climbing wall, Flow Rider surf simulator, tot pool, leisure pool, wet deck area, spray features, rentable party areas and concessions. Pack up the cooler and spend the day with us at this backyard oasis!

Admission: $9 (adults), $5 (children ages 3-15)
Summer Swim Hours:  
Mon, Noon to 6 p.m.
Tue-Sun, Noon to 8 p.m.
Tot Pool features (ages 7 and under only) - Tue & Thu, 10 a.m. to Noon.

Liberty Recreation Center
This community pool provides a fun-for-all swimming experience complete with shaded spots perfect for picnics. An ideal oasis for small groups looking to avoid the waterpark crowds, the pool also features a children’s slide, ADA-compliant pool chair, shower, shallow area and deep water swimming (7 feet).

Oak Point Recreation Center
After being out of commission last year due to center renovations, residents will be excited to return to Oak Point’s outdoor pool, which features a waterslide, a zero-depth beach entry, water playground and a variety of spray features. If the weather isn’t cooperating, come inside and enjoy our 50-meter pool and shallow water leisure area, which also includes a waterslide and 84-degree water temps all year long. The pool also serves as training ground for our local swim team, the Aquaducks. This team is for children ages 6-10 and provides them with a healthy and competitive experience that emphasizes leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship and respect toward others. Open registration for the summer is now open and online registration can be completed through the team’s website.

Summer Swim Hours

Plano Aquatic Center
From birthday parties to family reunions, the Plano Aquatic Center is popular for its kid-friendly features and rentable spaces. Patrons can rent the indoor pool, outdoor splash pad or party room depending on their needs during public swim hours. The PAC’s party room rentals allow guests to have party food and gifts in a designated area with each person paying the public swim admission. The center also offers preschool and youth swim classes as well as shallow and deep-water aerobics.

Summer Swim Hours:
Mon-Fri., Noon to 5 p.m. (pool and splash pad)
Sat.-Sun, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. (pool and splash pad)

Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center
Named after former Plano city manager Tom Muehlenbeck, this center features both indoor and outdoor swim options and hosts many swim teams including our Piranhas Youth Swim Team. Its indoor lap pool includes eight 25-yard lanes, a diving board and a large drop slide. The outdoor pool is popular during the summer months for its many fun features, such as a shallow-water leisure pool with a sitting area and fountains, water volleyball, toddler area, slides, concessions and a party area available for rent. The pool will stay open a little later for Moonlight Mondays starting June 4. Patrons can swim there from 7p.m.-9 p.m. for just $2 per person this summer (or free if you have a rec center membership).
