Through the enforcement of state and local laws, the Animal Services Division works diligently, with the cooperation of responsible pet owners, to prevent animal bites to humans. This is the main reason we try to impound any animal that does not appear to have an owner nearby. This site is geared towards informing the public as to the procedures we follow when a bite occurs and what actions we must take to insure that the animal does not have a communicable disease.
The animal MUST be quarantined for at least a ten (10) day period (240 hours from the time of the bite/scratch) or appropriately tested as necessary.
