Seat Belt Course Information
If you were issued a citation for a Seat Belt or Child Restraint Violation, and you have never taken a Seat Belt Education Course, you may request to take the Seat Belt Education Course to dismiss this citation. You will need to make your request in person at the Court Clerk's Office and pay a fee of $152.00 for a Seat Belt violation or $177.00 if the Seat Belt violation was in a school zone; a fee of $202.00 for a Child Restraint violation or $227.00 if the Child Restraint violation was in a school zone. The Clerk will give you a date to attend the Course.
Please Note: There are no resets for the Course date you will be given.
Seat Belt or Child Restraint Fines
The fine amount for a Seat Belt violation is $152.00; if the Seat Belt violation was in a school zone, the fine amount is $177.00. The minimum fine amount for a Child Restraint violation is $202.00; if the Child Restraint violation was in a school zone, the minimum fine amount is $227.00.
NOTE: Effective August 1, 2009, all credit card payments made either in person or through the Online Citation Payment System, will incur a 3.5% processing fee.
Failure To Attend The Seat Belt Course
If you do not take the Seat Belt Education Course on the assigned date and time, a final judgment of guilty will be entered on the 10th day after the scheduled Seat Belt Education Course without further notice and this violation will result in a conviction, unless you file an appropriate appeal bond with the Municipal Court Clerk's Office within 10 days from the date that final Judgment is entered. If you wish to present reasons to the Court why you did not attend the Seat Belt Education Course, you must submit written notice to the Court Clerk no later than 10 days from the date of the scheduled Seat Belt Education Course, including the address and phone number where you wish to be contacted.
