Plano Fire-Rescue is a full-time paid department staffed with firefighter/paramedics and firefighter/EMTs. With these
personnel, the Department operates paramedic engines, paramedic medical units (ambulances) and paramedic ladder
trucks. To facilitate efficiency, personnel are cross-trained and participate in the delivery of all services. In addition, our core services of fire suppression, emergency medical response, fire safety education, and fire inspections can be delivered
from any of the Department's major apparatus.

Paramedic engine companies are the primary response vehicle in the Plano Fire Department. They are staffed and equipped in a manner that facilitates the delivery of a wide variety of services. At least one paramedic engine company is assigned to each fire district. The desired staffing level for engine companies is four personnel including two paramedics.

Medical units provide patient transportation capabilities. They are assigned to fire stations based on both geographical and demand considerations. Medical units are strategically located throughout the city to minimize response time and to serve high-demand areas. The desired staffing level for medical units is two personnel including one paramedic. Demand medical units are put in service during peak demand times, to provide additional medical unit coverage throughout the city.

Paramedic ladder trucks provide additional and specialized capabilities. However, they are staffed and equipped in such
a manner that they can be used in place of an engine when necessary. Truck companies are assigned to fire stations
based on both geographical and demand considerations. The desired staffing level for truck companies is four personnel including two paramedics.

Architecture of Plano's fire stations is varied from station to station. Each station is built with a minimum of two engine
bays and all stations are one story with facilities for both men and women firefighters. Our stations also include fitness
rooms equipped with state of the art fitness equipment.
