CARE Program

Plano’s Public Safety Communications Department offers its citizens a program which provides a daily phone call to homebound or elderly residents to ensure their well being.  The program is called CARE or CAll REassurance (previously known as the RUOK Program).

This system is designed to give Plano’s senior citizens, disabled citizens or anyone with a short or long-term illness a greater feeling of freedom and security by providing them with a telephone call.

The calls can be customized to fit almost any lifestyle.  Residents predetermine the days of the week and the time they wish to receive their CARE call.  When the time arrives, a computer initiates a telephone call.  Once residents   answer the call, a pre-recorded voice will advise this is the “Daily CARE Call.”  If all is fine, a specified number on the phone’s touch pad is pressed, and no further action is necessary.

If the call remains unanswered or a different number on the phone’s touch pad is chosen, a friend, relative or neighbor is contacted.  If the contact person is unaware of the residents’ welfare, the police will be sent to the residence immediately.

If you are interested or know someone who would be interested in the CARE program, contact us at 972-941-7900 or email brendac@plano.gov and we will get them signed up for the program.
