Welcome to the City of Plano Comprehensive Plan Website!
The City of Plano is in the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan. Plano Tomorrow will be the guiding document for land use and transportation for the next 20 years, helping to ensure that Plano continues to be a thriving employment center and great place to live.
Plano’s residents have always had a strong sense of purpose and have been very proactive in planning for the future of the city. In 1963, when Plano had just 9,000 residents, our city leaders had the foresight to prepare for the coming wave of growth and adopted the very first Comprehensive Plan for the city. This plan laid the ground work for facilities and infrastructure that we all benefit from today. Since 1963, the plan has been periodically updated to address current planning issues as Plano has added more than 256,000 residents and has become a major employment center, with more than 140,000 jobs in the city.
We know that Plano and the entire Dallas-Fort Worth region will continue to experience additional growth during the next two decades. Some of the challenges presented by this growth will include: air quality, traffic congestion, revitalization of neighborhoods, aging infrastructure and redevelopment. The way we respond to this growth and these challenges will significantly influence the quality of life our residents can expect in the future. Through this planning effort, we hope to accomplish an even better and brighter future for Plano.
However, we cannot do this alone. We need your help in creating a document that reflects the current needs and vision of city residents, businesses, and other stakeholders. While the plan is being updated, this website will provide information, continual updates, and announcements about the development and update of the plan and ways for you to get involved.
We welcome you to the website and invite you to participate in the development of Plano Tomorrow.
