The function of the Community Outreach program involves establishing ways for citizens to become more actively involved in their government by opening communication between City Council, City staff and citizens.
The City Council quarterly meetings formerly known as Neighborhood Roundtable Meetings will become a Meet & Greet format beginning in June, 2012. Taking place across the city, these meetings provide an opportunity for citizens to share specific interests and concerns through one-on-one discussion with City Council and staff. Meetings will be advertised on the City website, in area newspapers, in City facilities, on the Plano Television Network, by E-Updates, in City of Plano utility bills and by notification to homeowner association presidents and Crime Watch Area Coordinators. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in any or all of these meetings regardless of location.
The Plano Citizens Government Academy is a community outreach program that educates residents about the basic roles and functions of municipal government in an interactive environment. This program provides a civics primer as well as current and relevant information. Further information can be obtained at 972-941-7307 or http://plano.gov/Pages/citizensacademy.aspx
The Multicultural Outreach Roundtable is designed to provide a partnership with City Council and the diverse citizens of Plano encouraging understanding and participation in the government process while fulfilling the needs and desires of the City’s diverse citizens. General membership is flexible in size and scope so as to accommodate the number of persons who wish to participate and provide ideas to recommend to City Council.
There are also multiple ways to connect electronically with the City. We offer E-Updates on several topics, social media channels, and a very active website! To initiate your subscriptions look for the Connect section of the home page. The Plano Television Network streams live video on our website as well as providing replays of recent government meetings.
