Saving Water Indoors

Saving water inside the house is easier than you think. Here are a few steps you can take:

  • Check for leaks. Indoors, look for dripping faucets and showerheads, and listen for running toilets. Outdoors, check irrigation systems and spigots or hose bibbs.
  • Twist and tighten faucet, showerhead, hose and pipe connections to stop drips. To save more water, twist an EPA WaterSense labeled aerator onto your faucets. Pick up free water efficiency retrofit items at Customer and Utility Services, Plano Municipal Center (1520 K Avenue).
  • Replace old or broken fixtures with EPA WaterSense labeled models, which are independently certified to use 20% less water and perform as well or better than standard models. Check out the City of Plano’s Water Rebate Program for toilet replacement credits and more for qualifying homes.
  • Change your behavior. There are many opportunities to stop wasting water through simple actions that add up to a big contribution. Turn off the running water when brushing your teeth or shaving. Only run the dishwasher and washing machine with full loads. For more water saving tips, visit the EPA WaterSense website and pledge to reduce water use!
