Crime Prevention Unit

The Plano Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit has a long and proud history of service in the Plano Community. It is one of its most active branches of the Department as it is charged with providing the citizens of Plano with proactive programs and steps that assist the citizens in eliminating or reducing their exposure to crime.

Unit personnel actively participate in community events and activities to educate the public on a variety of safety, security, and law enforcement topics. The Unit's goal is to maintain strong police-community relations through information and educational programs geared to all ages in an effort to reduce crime and enhance the quality of life in the City of Plano. Additionally, the Unit strives to strengthen public trust through education and partnerships. As partners, the Police Department and the community can make a difference in the amount of crime that takes place in our city.

In order to achieve its goals, the Unit's Officers and civilian staff partner with citizens and businesses, government and civic organizations, as well as schools and education-based programs. The partnerships created are an invaluable asset to the police department, as it builds relationships with the community.

The Crime Prevention Unit consists of two sworn Crime Prevention Specialists, three Public Safety Officers, and a Police Community Liaison, a Senior Administrative Assistant, and a supervising Sergeant. They work closely with our many citizen volunteers to provide the numerous Crime Prevention programs available to the community. They are highly trained individuals and have years of experience and hold memberships with the North Texas Crime Prevention Association and the Texas Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association.

Crime Prevention personnel regularly participate in events throughout the community including National Night Out, the National Drug Take-Back Initiative, and other events. Additionally, the Unit offers many seminars and presentations and a wide variety of programs and services
