Sometimes you need a little extra help and the City's Day Labor Center always has someone ready to work. On Monday, the Day Labor Center marked its 25th anniversary.
Since 1994, it has given local workers a safe and legal alternative to the old chaotic way of doing things – connecting community contractors with laborers for short-term employment. The center serves an average of 2,500 laborers and 800 contractors per month during the summer. These services lead to 40-50% of laborers finding job placement on a daily basis.
How it WorksLaborers are selected for you to interview on site, based on the skill-sets you request.
Wages are negotiated and job details are discussed with the selected laborer in the presence of City staff prior to leaving the site. These practices help ensure a fair and transparent experience for everyone.
Next time you find yourself looking for a few extra hands for a project, swing by the Day Labor Center, 805 Ozark Drive.
